How to setup MS Powerpoint to create a Research Poster

Step 1:

Once open MS Powerpoint, go to "Design" tab to set the Page Size and Page Orientation. Set the Page Size to the proper size, e.g. A2, A1, or A0. The exact sizes are available here. Design your poster exactly the size for the printing is important to prevent the loss of quality (blur, unclear, or distortion). So, if your poster size is A0, it is important for you to set the poster size to 841 × 1189 mm.

Page Setup and Slide Orientation is located under Design tab.

Sizes for the posters in milimeter and inch.

POSTER SIZE  mm × mm  in × in

A0  841 × 1189    33.1 × 46.8

A1  594 × 841    23.4 × 33.1

A2  420 × 594    16.5 × 23.4

A3  297 × 420    11.7 × 16.5

A4  210 × 297    8.27 × 11.7

Step 2:

Use "Insert" tab to insert the textbox or shape for the text. If you wish to add figures, e.g. table and graphs to the textbox, it is advised that you group the figures with the textbox together. The equation is under "Insert" tab as well (not shown), in case you wish to include some equations into the poster.

Step 3:

Adjust the font type, colour, and size at "Home" tab. Text alignment, bullets, numbering, setting colour for the shape, textbox, and the outline of the textbox can be done under this tab.

Home Tab in Microsoft Powerpoint.

Step 4:

Save your poster at "File" tab in "ppt" or "pptx" file for further revision. Before sending the file for printing, it is advised to save the file in pdf format (under save as).
